DA: Patchogue Sex Assault Suspect Arrested

Patchogue suspect arrested Wednesday, says Newsday.

A Patchogue man suspected of allegedly sexually assaulting and robbing a 24-year-old woman in Patchogue Village recently has been arrested, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota announced Thursday.

According to the DA’s office, Gary Grigg, 25, allegedly attacked the victim around 3 a.m. on June 29 on West Main Street in Patchogue. Grigg was arrested Wednesday, according to a report in Newsday citing DA spokesperson Bob Clifford.

“During this vicious attack, the defendant sexually assaulted the victim and broke her nose by repeatedly punching her in the face,” Spota said in a release.

Grigg has pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in First District Court to one charge of criminal sexual act in the first degree and robbery in the second degree, says the DA’s office. Grigg is being held on $75,000 bail.

Police said earlier this month that the victim was walking westbound on the south side of the street when a man came up from behind her and dragged her into a grassy and wooded area between West Avenue and River Avenue. The name of the victim has not been released due to the nature of the crime, says police. The suspect allegedly took $26 from the victim during the attack, says the DA’s office.
