East End Art Thief Sentenced to 6 Years

A 24-year-old Medford carpenter from Guatemala who and stole artworks and valuables estimated to be worth as much as $600,000 total has been sentenced to six years in prison and five years probation, according to .

The art thief, Angel Palencia, had worked on at least some of the homes before burglarizing them, according to authorities. While Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said he , investigators said he did not implicate anyone else and maintains it was a one-man operation, The Reporter says.

Palencia was nabbed after he tried to sell artworks to a Southold art dealer, who learned the art was stolen and aided the police investigation, according to authorities.
