Fatal Crash Closes LIE

Eastbound traffic closed after Exit 65 for seven hours after a terrible accident where a man was ejected from his car.

A man was killed when his Toyota Scion collided with a pickup truck just east of Exit 65 on the Long Island Expressway around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday.

Driver Salvatore Gianni, of Ridge, crossed the median, colliding with the pick-up truck. He was ejected from the car.

Gianni was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:50 p.m. No one from the pick-up or a third automobile that collided with debris from the incident was injured.

Traffic was forced off the LIE at Exit 65 until 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigations into the causes of the incident were still ongoing, said Chief Kneitel of the Suffolk County Sheriff's department.
