Five Students Injured in School Bus Crash

Five teens treated for minor injuries following crash in Patchogue Monday afternoon, police say.

Correction: Our initial report on the accident stated that the injured students attended Holy Angels Regional School. This was incorrect. We apologize for the error.

Five students from St. John the Baptist High School suffered minor injuries when the mini school bus they were riding in Monday afternoon collided with a dump truck in Patchogue, police said.

Police say the truck from All County Block and Supply, based in Holbrook, was traveling south on Grove Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when the 65-year-old male driver drove past a stop sign without stopping.  The truck struck the bus which was traveling east on Carman Street.

Five teens, 14-year-old twin boys, a 15-year-old male, a 15 year-old female and a 16 year-old female were transported to Brookhaven Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries, police said.

The injured teens were all students from West Islip's St. John the Baptist, according to Patchogue Fire Department Chief Joe Perry.

Neither the 36-year-old female bus driver nor the driver of the dump truck were injured. The dump truck driver was cited for disobeying a stop sign and for an equipment violation, police said.

Holy Angels? There was a student from St. John the Baptist on the bus....

I'm confused. Holy Angels only goes up to 8th grade (13 yrs old). My daughter went there. The article says the ages of the students were from 14 to 16 years old. The school bus must have been transporting children from another school.

There was an error mentioning Holy Angels which has been corrected. Thank you. I hope the students are doing well and resting after what must have been a frightening time. Our prayers are with them.

It says to 14-year old twin boys. I'm one of the students on the bus and it's says twin boys but I'm a girl so it should say twins instead of twin boys. Thanks.

Good grief, Native, she made a typing error!

Brooks, I just checked with police to verify and their report hasn't changed in regards to the listed injuries. I'm not saying that your incorrect (as that would be silly of me), but just letting you know where its sourced from.

Native you are really rude. These students were in accident and that is what the story is about. Why don't you express your concern for her well being rather than correct her grammar? I hope that everyone involved in this accident is okay.

Like most people too lazy to change it i.e. took them a long time to hand write the report the first time much less spending hours to rewrite it?
