Florida Trooper, Pat-Med High Grad Chelsea Richard Killed in Crash

Chelsea Richard, 30, is killed while working on Saturday.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper from Long Island was killed Saturday after being struck by a pickup truck while working at a crash scene, according to a First Coast News report.

Chelsea Richard, a 2001 Patchogue-Medford High School graduate, had responded to a two-car crash on I-75 in Marion County at 1:40 p.m., the report says.

Both vehicles were pulled onto the shoulder when another accident occurred in the area, sending a pickup truck crashing into Richard, a tow truck driver and a pedestrian. Richard, 30, and the tow truck driver were pronounced dead at the scene and the pedestrian died later at the hospital, the report says.
