Regional competition takes place in East Patchogue.
of East Patchogue was recently host to an annual extrication tournament.
The tournament consists of various exercises that simulate motor vehicle accidents. Teams work together to extract the patient within the time alloted. Certain scenarios allow more tool use while others only permit rudimentary techniques. These tournaments help train emergency personnel for real life situations.
Fire department commissioner Randy Miller spoke to Patch about the purpose of the event.

"We started many years ago, but we continue to get departments from all over the Island. Some of these guys came down from Canada, New Jersey, Upstate," Miller said. "We’re just trying to pass on our knowledge, so that what we see here makes the job easier when it’s one of our loved ones or somebody else in a real car accident."
