The will be hosting Fire Department Extraction teams from the northeast region and Long Island in a competition on Saturday.
Ten teams will take on the challenge, which includes extricating a patient from a simulated vehicle collision.
Carl Fargione, of the department, told Patch that each team will compete in two challenge pits, one with a limited amount of rescue tools and the other with all types of rescue tools, including hydraulic rescue equipment. Each team will have 20 minutes to safely extricate an entrapped mannequin from the simulation.
Points will be determined based on the command structure, hazard and scene control, patient and rescuer safety and the techniques used to disentangle the patient.
The top placing teams will move on to compete in the International Extrication Challenge.
The tournament will take place all day long at the Hagerman Fire Department on Oakdale Avenue in East Patchogue.
