Indictment Of E. Patchogue Man In Fatal Crash

Driver's grandfather killed in crash, case presented to grand jury, says DA.

The indictment of an East Patchogue man arrested on July 22 for allegedly driving while intoxicated on Sunrise Highway leading into a crash that killed his grandfather is scheduled Wednesday, says the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Gary Hendricks, 45, was driving westbound on Sunrise Highway in Patchogue when he allegedly struck another vehicle. According to police, Hendricks’s vehicle went onto the road’s shoulder, up an embankment and overturned several times east of Route 112. Issac Beal, 77, was seated in the backseat of the Suburban and was ejected from the vehicle. Issac Beal was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Two other passengers in Hendricks’s vehicle were also injured, and no one was injured in the second car involved in the crash.

“The Vehicular Crimes Bureau’s investigation and review of this fatality was presented to a grand jury resulting in an eight count indictment of Mr. Hendricks on which he will be arraigned in Central Islip,” District Attorney Thomas Spota said in a release.
