Fire Alarm Interrupts Library Budget Voting

Dust from a vacuum sets off library's alarm, briefly evacuating the building during the budget vote.

Voting for the budget was briefly interrupted when dust from a vacuum pack emptied by a custodian set off the library’s fire alarm system at approximately 2:15 p.m.  Tuesday.

The library was briefly evacuated. The came to investigate the scene. Patrons were allowed back into the library about 15 minutes later. 

Dina Chrils, director of the library, said that the fire alert system was unable to tell the difference between smoke and the dust.
