Man Killed in E. Patchogue Crash

Police say motorcycle driven by 42-year old male collides with another vehicle Monday night in East Patchogue.

Update at 9:40 a.m.: The motorcyclist who was killed in the crash has been identified as Elliot B. Smith, 42, of North Babylon. The driver of the 1998 Ford Explorer has been identified as Marie Volpe, 20, of Center Moriches. 

A North Babylon man was killed Monday night in East Patchogue when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by another vehicle, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, a 20-year old female from Center Moriches was traveling eastbound in the left lane of Montauk Highway when her vehicle collided with a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle that was traveling westbound near the intersection of Sills Road.

The motorcyclist was taken to in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead. The female driver was also taken to Brookhaven Memorial and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are withholding the identities of both drivers pending the notification of relatives.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

I didnt know elliot well, we met a few times as he was good friends with my sister, RIP Elliot my friend, you were taken too early from this earth..dontg forget to cut-it-up in heaven and get-em dancin... prayers to the family

Way to go Maggie on stopping to do CPR to try to save his life...So sorry that it was not successful but stopping to help your follow man was very heroic..God bless him and his family.

Rip Elliot.. This is such a tragedy. Elliot was an amazing father and one of the nicest guys you could ever meet. My greatest memory is during the NY Blackout in 2003 my daughter only 2 months old Elliot knocked on my door to make sure I didn't need anything because he was on his way to the store for his family... That was just the kinda person he was...thinking of others first.
