Marine Officers Rescue Jet Skier From Great South Bay

Incident occurred Friday afternoon off Swan Creek in East Patchogue.

A Queens man was rescued from the Great South Bay by Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau officers Friday afternoon after his jet ski overturned.

Sazlul Kabiri, 22, was jet skiing shortly before 2 p.m. approximately 300 yards south of Swan Creek in East Patchogue when the watercraft overturned, police said.

Jeffrey Wetzel, a good Samaritan who was on the beach, heard Kabiri shouting in the bay and swam out to him on a boogie board. The two men waded in the water and began shouting for help, police said.

A police boat responded to the location after a 911 caller reported distressed swimmers in the water and Marine Bureau Officers Robert Femia, Christian Schnoor and Robert Jenkins pulled the men out of the water, police said.

Kabiri and Wetzel, 41, of East Patchogue, were not injured.

Your barking dog complaint in North Patchogue is handled by Public Safety, Town of Broohaven. CallRead More them at 451-6161 and they will take action. The first time the owners will be warned, the next time they will receive a summons.

Don't know what the Town ordnance is, but if you live within the Village of Patchogue, I believeRead More there is a "15 minute rule" in the code. Basically, if the dog is barking for more than 15 continuous minutes, it's a violation subject to a fine. Call public safety at 475-1225. Keep in mind it's probably not their first priority (unless the dog has a bad attitude, and is carrying a weapon), but they will be responsive, eventually.
