Trial Begins for Medford Man Accused of Killing Prostitute

Police say Chad Johnson admitted to strangling Jennifer Papain last year.

The trial for a Medford man accused of strangling a 26-year-old prostitute started Wednesday in Riverhead Criminal Court.

Chad Johnson, 23, faces charges of second degree murder, patronizing a prostitute, driving without a license and possession of marijuana. Law enforcement officials said Johnson strangled N. Patchogue resident Jennifer Papain, whom he hired through a Craiglist ad, over an argument about money in March 2010.

Police say Johnson admitted to the murder in May 2010 and led officers to a wooded area near Expressway Drive North, west of Bellport Road in Medford, where Papain's body was buried. Johnson has pleaded not guilty.
