N. Patchogue FD: Car Port Ablaze On Abandoned Home

Two raccoons perished, no human injuries.

A car port on an abandoned home on Putnam Avenue in North Patchogue caught on fire Monday morning, Captain Tom Wassmer of the North Patchogue Fire Department told Patch.

The fire was called in at 10:54 a.m. Monday by an assistant chief who lives in the area and saw the smoke from his front yard.

Wassmer said the car port was being used as a storage shed, and as a result was packed with miscellaneous items.

Wassmer said that heat from the car port is what caused the fire.

Hagerman Fire Department responded with North Patchogue as mutal aid, with Patchogue Fire Department covering North Patchogue's house while they were out.

The fire was under control by 11:55 a.m.
