Nearby: Farmingville Man Charged In Door-To-Door Scam

Written by Matthew McGevna.

A Farmingville man is under arrest today, accused of running a phony door-to-door fundraising scam in the area.

Police say David Papik, of Pinelawn Avenue in Farmingville, was canvassing homes on Lidge Drive on June 19 asking residents to donate money for a fictitious charity event that would benefit the "Multiple Sclerosis Foundation."
A woman who donated $10 to the bogus charity walk researched the event and called police when she discovered the fundraiser didn't exist.

Sixth Precinct officers conducted an investigation and arrested the 33-year-old Papik on Thursday night.

Papik is charged with 2nd-degree scheming to defraud. He was arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.

Meanwhile, police are asking anyone with more information on this scheme or victims to call the Sixth Squad at (631) 854-8652 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
