Male was not hit but his luggage took a hit.

The man reportedly hit by a LIRR train Thursday night in West Sayville was actually not hit but did incur injuries when his luggage was hit by a westbound train at the Cherry Avenue crossing, according to transit officials.

According to the MTA the man stepped out from behind downed gates at 9:20 p.m. to cross over the tracks. He later told police that he didn't think a train was coming, stated the MTA.

But unfortunately a train, not in passenger service, was coming through and it hit the rolling luggage the man was pulling over the tracks. The contact jerked the man off his feet, causing a compound fracture of the left forearm and a dislocated left elbow, according to the MTA.
