Nearby: MTA Clarifies Train Incident in West Sayville

Male was not hit but his luggage took a hit.

The man reportedly hit by a LIRR train Thursday night in West Sayville was actually not hit but did incur injuries when his luggage was hit by a westbound train at the Cherry Avenue crossing, according to transit officials.

According to the MTA the man stepped out from behind downed gates at 9:20 p.m. to cross over the tracks. He later told police that he didn't think a train was coming, stated the MTA.

But unfortunately a train, not in passenger service, was coming through and it hit the rolling luggage the man was pulling over the tracks. The contact jerked the man off his feet, causing a compound fracture of the left forearm and a dislocated left elbow, according to the MTA.

As Patch reportedly earlier today, the Community Ambulance Company transported him to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore. A call by Patch to the hospital regarding his health status was not returned as of press time.

The MTA said the incident caused the delay of three trains, that no charges were filed and the man's name is not being released.

Your barking dog complaint in North Patchogue is handled by Public Safety, Town of Broohaven. CallRead More them at 451-6161 and they will take action. The first time the owners will be warned, the next time they will receive a summons.

Don't know what the Town ordnance is, but if you live within the Village of Patchogue, I believeRead More there is a "15 minute rule" in the code. Basically, if the dog is barking for more than 15 continuous minutes, it's a violation subject to a fine. Call public safety at 475-1225. Keep in mind it's probably not their first priority (unless the dog has a bad attitude, and is carrying a weapon), but they will be responsive, eventually.
