Nearby: Police Ask Public's Help in Finding Bayport Burglar

A man broke into an Oak Street home and took off with a safe containing rare coins.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Fifth Precinct are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who police say burglarized a Bayport home earlier this month and took off with a safe.

According to police the burglar broken into a home on Oak Street about 11:30 a.m. on March 15 by prying open a rear sliding glass door. The man, who police say may have had an accomplice, took a safe containing cash and rare coins including a 1883 Morgan silver dollar and several platinum coins.

The suspect is described as a white or light-skinned Hispanic male in his mid-to-late 20s. He was wearing jeans, a black jacket and gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
