Nearby Police: Bellport Man Arrested For Weapon Possession

ShotSpotter notification indicating a weapon firing came into police at 4:42 a.m. Saturday.

A Bellport man was arrested early Saturday morning for alleged possession of a handgun after a Shotspotter activation indicating a weapon firing was picked up in Bellport, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, following a ShotSpotter notification, officers Christopher Quitoni and Michael Robertson were sent to Hoffman Avenue at 4:42 a.m. where they located Kevin Crenshaw, 33, and another individual walking toward Crenshaw's home on the street. Police say Crenshaw, who is currently on parole, was in possession of a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun and arrested.

Police say Crenshaw is charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
