Nearby: Police Rescue Injured Heron

The bird was found stuck on a cord between trees Thursday afternoon.

A wounded great blue heron that was stuck on a cord between trees was rescued on Mill Road in Coram Thursday afternoon, says Suffolk County Police.

Police say a 911 caller reported seeing the stuck bird around 12:14 p.m. Officers Lance Prager and Michael Coscia responded, and an employee from Alternative Earthcare Tree and Lawn Systems who happened to be working nearby for Premium Mulch and Materials provided a bucket truck and elevated with Prager more than 50 feet.

They freed the bird from the cord and put a blanket around the heron to calm it.
