A man suspected of stealing an iPhone from a gas station in Shirley is being sought out by Suffolk County Police.

Police say that on May 9 around 8:50 p.m., a male victim placed his iPhone on the check-out counter while paying for items at the Citgo gas station at 950 Montauk Highway, when he left the store forgetting the phone. When the victim returned to the store, the phone was gone.

Police say surveillance footage show a man standing in line behind the victim removing the phone from the counter and leaving the store with it.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 30s, around 5 foot 8 inches in height, with short shaved dark hair and a heavy-build. Police say he was wearing a black shirt with a large neon-colored character printed on the front. Police say the suspect got into the passenger side of a white GMC Jimmy or Chevy Blazer, which was also on surveillance footage.

Photos from the surveillance footage provided by police are in the media gallery.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information about the crime is being asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220 TIPS. All calls are being kept confidential.
