The incident occurred Saturday morning and the school district issued an email alert on Monday.
Police are investigating a report that a white man, driving a white van, attempted to lure a young Sayville youth into his van Saturday morning on Lincoln Avenue in Sayville.
A boy told his father that the man said he had candy in the van and asked if he wanted some. The incident took place about 11:15 a.m. and police canvassed the area after the boy's father made a report.
The school district was notified and officials issued an email Monday morning that stated the following:

We were just informed from the Suffolk County Police Department that there was an incident Saturday early afternoon, March 30, 2013 in the Lincoln Avenue/Montauk Hwy area when a male with a red hat, t-shirt, and ripped jeans tried to lure an elementary aged male student into a white panel van using candy. The white male had both arms covered with tattoos of dragons and people, had a piercing in his lower lip, and thick eyeglasses. If you have any further information please call Suffolk County Police.
