Shortly after this story posted, Patch received feedback from the Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce regarding the incidents and updating to include the statement:

The Chamber of Commerce’s goal is to provide a wholesome, safe, family friendly parade. We work with the 5th Precinct before and during the parade to provide such an event. We appreciate the support of the 5th Precinct. Every year they do a great job of controlling the large crowd and maintaining order. The Chamber does not condone alcohol consumption at the parade, in fact we do everything we can to discourage it. The arrests will be an item for discussion at our next board meeting. Going forward we will continue to work with the authorities to ensure we do everything in our power to prevent illegal or bad behavior. The feedback we have received from the community at large has been overwhelmingly positive. We are disappointed that there had to be arrests. It’s unfortunate that the acts of a few individuals can tarnish such a nice community event.

ORIGINAL STORY

Nine arrests for disorderly conduct were made in Blue Point on Sunday, March 10, during the Bayport-Blue Point Chamber St. Patrick’s Day parade, according to the Suffolk Police media incident website.

The arrests, made about noon time, an hour after the parade kicked off, were made at Capital One Bank at the corner of Blue Point Avenue and Montauk Highway, across form Cavanaugh’s tavern, according to police. All those arrested were male and included B-BP residents as well as Brookhaven, Patchogue, Ridgefield, Lindenhust and Stanford residents.

Later in the day, near 5 p.m., two more arrests were made on Blue Point Avenue involving two males, one from Lindenhurst and one from Bayport, for using obscene language and gestures.
