Patchogue Man Arrested After Escaping Police Custody at Hospital

Kenneth Herlich of Patchogue fled police custody and was arrested in Nassau County on Friday.

A Patchogue man who escaped police custody last week at  was re-arrested Friday in Nassau County, according to police reports.

Kenneth Herlich, 27, was arrested in Albertson at 1:47 p.m. along with his girlfriend, Tania Pino-Gonzalez, 27, of Valley Stream, by marshals from the New York-New Jersey Task Force. Both were held overnight at the sixth precinct and arraigned on Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip. Herlich's charges included escape in the second degree, petit larceny, grand larceny in the third degree and resisting arrest. Pino-Gonzalez was arrested for allegedly hindering prosecution in the third degree.

Police said Herlich escaped police custody Nov. 7 after being arrested on a warrant for alleged burglary in the third degree, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree and resisting arrest. He was taken to SBUMC after his arrest when he complained of chest pains.

According to police reports, Herlich fled in a stolen 1998 BMW which was running at the hospital's valet station. The vehicle was later recovered.
