Patchogue Man Arrested for Assault in Freeport

Nassau County Police say Nashaun Hammonds shot another man in the thigh following an argument at a nightspot.

Nassau County Police arrested a Patchogue man in Freeport on Friday and charged him with assault.

Police said Nashaun Hammonds, 27, allegedly fired one round from a .38 caliber handgun into the left upper thigh of an unnamed 28-year-old man inside the Retro Lounge Bar in Freeport. Police said the alleged assault occurred after a verbal argument at the bar. The victim was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

Police charged Hammonds with assault in the first degree, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
