Patchogue Man Dies From Bohemia Crash

Passenger admitted in critical condition to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital.

UPDATE 10/21/10: Suffolk County Police announced that Kevin Mead died from the injuries sustained in the accident on Oct. 14. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office said that the charges against Robert Watson have not been changed. Original story follows.

A Patchogue man was critically injured Sunday morning when a Nesconset man collided into the vehicle he was a passenger in said Suffolk County Police.

Kevin Mead, 26, was sitting in the backseat of a 2010 Mazda that was in the left turning lane of the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and Johnson Avenue in Bohemia when it was struck from behind by a 2007 Nissan driven by Robert Watson, 24. Police said that Watson fled the scene following the crash, but was arrested by fifth squad detective Robert Suppa at Johnson Avenue and Carlough Road in Bohemia.

Mead was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hopsital where he was admitted in critical condition for head and chest trauma. Allan Collins, 57, who drove the Mazda and his daughter Stephanie Collins, 24, who was sitting in the front passenger seat were treated for shock at the hospital.

Watson plead not guilty at his arraignment to charges of driving while intoxicated, driving without a license and fleeing the scene of a crime at First District Court in Central Islip said the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. He is held on $75,000 bail.
