Suffolk County Police have arrested a Patchogue resident for making a false report that resulted in Bayport-Blue Point school officials locking down the high school and nearby Academy Elementary this week to conduct a weapons search.
According to Suffolk Police, Michael Rodriguez, 17, was arrested Nov. 19 and is charged with making a false report in the third degree. Police say Rodriguez called 911 and falsely reported an emergency at the high school.
School officials stated Monday they ordered the lockdown at about 12:30 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of a weapon in the building.
Suffolk Police searched students' bags and lockers, according to the district. No weapon was found and schools were dismissed on schedule after the two-hour search effort was completed.
An inquiry on Wednesday to district officials regarding the arrest was not immediately returned as the district was closed half day for the Thanksgiving holiday.
