Pedestrian Struck, Killed in N. Patchogue
Accident occurred around 8:25 p.m. Thursday on North Ocean Avenue, police say.
Update (2 a.m.): Resto has died in the hospital of her injuries.
A pedestrian was struck and seriously injured in a crash on North Ocean Avenue in North Patchogue Thursday night, police said.
Police say Melinda Resto, 29, was hit by a 2001 Honda Civic around 8:25 p.m. near Shaber Road.

Resto was transported by North Patchogue Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital where she is listed in serious condition.
The driver of the Civic, Shawn Smith, 33, of North Patchogue, was headed north on North Ocean Avenue at the time of the crash. He was not injured.

The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Fifth Squad detectives at (631) 854-8552.
