Person Struck by Train Delays Eastbound Travel

Buses replaced trains from Patchogue to Montauk.

Long Island Rail Road trains going eastbound from Patchogue were suspended around 9:15 a.m. Saturday morning when a person who was not authorized to be on the tracks was fatally struck on them east of the Bellport LIRR station.

Service was restored around 11:47 a.m. after a delay of two hours, 40 minutes.

Passengers traveling on the eastbound train originally due to arrive in Montauk at 10:46 a.m. were held at the Patchogue LIRR station. Buses replacing the trains going eastbound from Patchogue to Montauk accommodated some of the passengers, and westbound service from Patchogue was unaffected.

An LIRR representative said investigation regarding the fatality is ongoing.
