Pets Killed in Medford House Fire

Fire on Maple Street Wednesday kills two dogs and two cats.

Two cats and two dogs perished in a house fire in Medford Wednesday afternoon.

According to Medford Fire Department Chief Bill Hart, the fire department received a call at 2:37 p.m. of a blaze on Maple Street near the intersection of Southaven Avenue.

Firefighters from Medford were aided by Brookhaven, Hagerman, North Patchogue, and Holtsville Rescue & Command. The Farmingville Fire Department was on standby.

No one was home at the time so no injuries were reported. Four pets, however, did not survive.

The cause of the fire is still pending investigation. An initial overview suggested that it may be due to the fireplace, officials said.

Oh, I'm so sorry. That's my biggest fear--of losing my pets in a fire. I worry everytime I leave my house so can only imagine what the homeowner is experiencing right now. Very sad.

The Sayville Chamber of Commerce has been helping place families that are displaced from Hurricane Sandy, I'm sure they could help a family in a similiar situation. (They are working with families from all towns, not just Sayville) http://www.greatersayvillechamber.com/

@Krissy I'm an insurance adjuster and their best bet at this point may be a trailer on site. It will be close quarters for a while but right now there is a huge wait list for any apartment.. also any apartment is renting at 1.5 - 2 times normal asking. I'm sure by now the companies have placed their flyers on her property. Also if they have insurance they can direct bill the company so they aren't out of pocket. If they need more help let me know.
