Police: Arrest Made in Patchogue Hit-and-Run

Sally Cestaro, 40, is arrested Thursday, police say.

A Bellport woman was arrested Thursday and charged in a hit-and-run crash in Patchogue last month that left a man seriously injured, police said. 

Sally Cestaro, 40, is charged with leaving the scene of an incident without reporting involving serious physical injury, a felony, and second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. 

According to police, Walter Orlando Matute Penaranda, 24, was crossing Montauk Highway east of Bay Avenue when he was struck by a Cestaro's vehicle around 4:20 a.m. on May 4.

Penaranda, of Patchogue, underwent emergency surgery at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center following the crash. 

Cestaro is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Thursday morning.
