Police Arrest Two Men in Armed Robbery in Patchogue Pathmark Parking Lot

Police say two men responsible for armed robberies in Patchogue and Shirley this week.

Police have arrested two men, including one from East Patchogue, who they say robbed female shoppers in Patchogue and Shirley this week.

Javon Brown, 22, of East Patchogue, is charged with two counts of first degree robbery. Robert Cummings, 18, of Shirley, is charged with two counts of first degree robbery, driving while ability impaired by drugs and numerous traffic violations.

On Wednesday around 11:30 p.m. police say one of the men accosted and stole the pocketbook of a woman in the parking lot of the Pathmark shopping center at 399 Route 112 in Patchogue. The man then fled in a light-colored SUV with the other robber, police said.

Two days earlier, in the King Kullen shopping center, located at 405 William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, a 24-year woman was robbed in the same manner, police said.

After the Patchogue robbery, Fifth Precinct detectives were able to obtain a description of the robber's vehicle from a store surveillance camera and the description was broadcast to police units county-wide.

On Thursday night, Fifth Precinct officer Brian Moore was on routine patrol when he observed two men in a silver 1999 Mercedes Benz ML320 acting suspiciously in a parking lot on Montauk Highway in East Patchogue, police said.

The vehicle fit the description from store surveillance video. Moore attempted to stop the vehicle, but the men fled, police said.

Officer Moore along with other Fifth Precinct units pursued the vehicle to Lexington Road in Shirley, where Brown and Cummings were arrested at about 10:06 p.m.

An investigation determined that the two men were responsible for both robberies, police said. Both are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

As the investigation continues, police are asking anyone with information to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
