Police ID Victim of Fatal Sunrise Highway Crash

A 54-year-old Florida man is killed in single car crash in Patchogue Thursday morning.

Police have identified the man killed in Thursday morning's on Sunrise Highway as Floridian Rick Poulos. 

The accident occurred about a half-mile east of Waverly Avenue in Patchogue when Poulos' 2010 Volkswagen veered off the westbound roadway and struck a guardrail on the right shoulder at 8:36 a.m., police said. 

The car then crossed all three lanes of traffic and struck the guardrail in the median, police said. 

Poulos, 54, of Port St. Lucie, was transported by North Patchogue Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center,where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.

Think about the morons who designed Sunrise Highway. It couldn't be more dangerous with it's short entrance and exit ramps and the service road going from 2 lanes to one lane, to one lane, to three lanes and then ending lanes.
