Police: Man Arrested After Robbery, Assault Near Patchogue LIRR Station

A Patchogue man who was beaten and robbed by two men in Patchogue Thursday morning spotted one of his attackers an hour later and was able to lead police to an arrest, police said. 

According to police, a 38-year-old man was walking near the Patchogue Long Island Rail Road station on Division Street at about 5:45 a.m. when he was accosted by two men who punched him numerous times and stole his wallet.  

An unidentified woman who was passing by observed the attack and yelled at the suspects to stop beating the victim, police said. The assailants then fled on foot.  

The good Samaritan aided the victim, who suffered minor injuries, and helped him get home, police said. 

About an hour later, the victim, who was walking on South Street in Patchogue, called police when he saw one of the men who had assaulted him, police said. 

Fifth Precinct Patrol Officer Dennis Stewart located the suspect, Antonio Lattan, at South Street and West Avenue in Patchogue and placed him under arrest, police said.  The second attacker has not been located. 

Lattan, 23, of Mastic, is charged with second degree robbery. He is being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
