Police: Man Talked Off Waverly Bridge

Sunrise Highway re-opens after being shutdown since Friday morning.

A man who was threatening to jump off the Waverly Avenue bridge over Sunrise Highway in Patchogue Friday has been talked off the bridge by officers, Suffolk County Police told Patch.

Police said the man had been on the bridge since around 8:20 a.m., and he was off the bridge shortly before 3 p.m.

The man has been to taken a local hospital for evaluation.

While the man was still on the bridge, Sunrise Highway was closed in both directions at Waverly Avenue and eastbound at Nicolls Road. The highway has since been opened.
