Police: Mastic Man Charged in Week-Long Bank Robbery Spree

A Mastic man was arrested on Friday and charged with robbing three banks and attempting rob another in the area over an eight-day span, police said. 

Using video surveillance as well as tips, Pattern Crime Unit detectives identified the robber as 21-year-old John Harvey, police said.   

Harvey was arrested with the assistance of Seventh Precinct Crime Section and Cope Units at the corner of Winters Drive and Kameo Drive in Mastic without incident at 3:24 p.m. Friday, police said.

Police said investigations revealed that Harvey was responsible for the following:

  • Robbing a Capital One Bank in Mastic on February 27
  • Attempting to rob a HSBC in Mastic on March 3
  • Robbing a Chase Bank in Center Moriches on March 3
  • Robbing a Chase Bank in Patchogue on March 6

Harvey is charged with three counts of third degree robbery and one count of third degree attempted robbery. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
