A Chase bank in Medford was robbed Tuesday morning, but police say the man responsible was soon after.
Angel Delgado, 29, entered the bank at 700 Patchogue Yaphank Road around 9:20 a.m. and "handed the teller a note demanding cash and threatened the use of a weapon if she did not comply," police said.
The teller gave Delgado an unspecified amount of cash and Delgado fled, police said.
Responding Emergency Service Officers Michael Viruet and Thomas Crist observed a man who matched the broadcast description of the suspect riding a bicycle south on Station Road in Bellport, police said.
When Viruet and Crist called to the suspect, Delgado jumped off the bicycle and ran into nearby woods. A short foot pursuit ensued and Delgado was apprehended, police said.
Delgado, of Shoreham, is charged with first degree robbery and is being held at the Seventh Precinct. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
