Police: Medford Gas Attendant Skimmed Customer Credit Cards

A laptop computer and camera captured images of customers swiping credit cards and entering PIN numbers said officials, police say.

An attendant at a Medford gas station was arrested Monday on charges of skimming credit cards, police said.

Officers arrested Dany Diaz, 20 of Medford, for the use of a skimming device to collect debit and credit card numbers from customers making purchases at the station on Route 112. Police did not release the name and exact address of the station because of "the sensitive nature of the investigation."

Diaz used a laptop computer connected to a camera to capture images of customers swiping their cards and entering their PIN numbers, police said.

Diaz is charged with identity theft in the third degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree and possession of a skimmer device in the second degree. When arrested, Diaz possessed a skimmer device, a fake Department of Homeland Security Permanent Resident Card and a fake Social Security card, police said.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the case and potential victims to contact the Identity Theft Unit at 631-852-6821.
