Police: Patchogue Man Arrested for Grocery Store Burglary

Officer spots a ladder against a North Bellport grocery store, which leads to arrest of Javon Brown, police say.

A Patchogue man was arrested early Friday morning on charges of burglarizing a North Bellport grocery store, police said.

Police say that Javon Brown, 21, was found after a chase from the Columbus Grocery store, located 1387 Montauk Highway, through to the area of Narrangansett Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.

The chase began when a man was discovered on the roof of the store after police officer William Boyd saw a ladder against its wall at 3 a.m. The man jumped off the roof and ran northbound through several residential yards. Canine section officer Ryan Neems and his canine, Bear, ultimately located Brown, police said.
