Police: Patchogue Store Employee Wrestles Knife From Robber

Kristian Falterman, a homeless man, was arrested after incident at A&E Multi Services Tuesday afternoon.

A homeless man messed with the wrong woman Tuesday afternoon while robbing a Patchogue store.

Ana Ramones, 29, an employee at A&E Multi Services, wrestled a knife away from the man, who is now behind bars facing a first-degree robbery charge, police said.

Kristian Falterman, 31, walked into the store at 239 E. Main St. and "lingered for a while before going behind the counter with a knife and demanding money," police said.

Ramones, of Bay Shore, complied with Falterman's demands and gave him cash from two registers shortly before 2:30 p.m., police said, but Falterman was going nowhere fast.

Romones, who "felt she was in danger," according to a police spokesman, engaged in a struggle with the robber and managed to get the knife out of Falterman's hand before throwing the weapon outside the store.

A good Samaritan intervened as the struggle moved outside and held Falterman down until officers arrived, police said.

Falterman was injured during the incident and was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with non-life threatening injuries. Ramones escape injury, police said.

Falterman is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
