Police: Patchogue Woman, Accomplice Arrested in MA For Counterfeit Bust

Burlington Police arrested New York residents Amy Boehl and Darwin Gutierrez on charges connected to counterfeit money.

A Patchogue woman was arrested last week in Burlington, MA, as part of what police there said was a counterfeit money bust.

According to police, Amy Boehl of East Patchogue was arrested after she allegedly attempted to pass a counterfiet $100 bill at  on Friday, June 29. Off-duty Massachusetts State Police Sergeant John T. Linquata, who was in the store at the time, notified the Burlington Police Department of the incident.

Linquata observed Boehl enter a black Nissan Altima that was parked in the parking lot. Moments later Officer Scott Lauder and Detective Thomas Fournier of the Burlington Police Department arrived on scene. After an initial investigation, Boehl was placed under arrest. A further search of the vehicle revealed $2,900 in counterfeit $100 bills, police said.

The vehicle owner, Darwin Gutierrez of Brooklyn, was arrested a short while later. Gutierrez is being charged with possession of 10 counterfeit bills and uttering counterfeit bills. The vehicle was towed to the Burlington Police Station.

Fournier and Lauder executed a search warrant on the vehicle and were able to retrieve an additional $2,100 in counterfeit bills. Also located in the vehicle was approximately $10,000 to $15,000 worth of merchandise from various and stores, police said.

Through his investigation Lauder was able to tie Boehl to a $1,200 counterfeit purchase at Nordstrom's Burlington location and an $800 counterfeit purchase at Macy's Burlington store, according to police.

Fournier and Lauder are currently working with Macy's regional security to identify the merchandise located in the vehicle.

At the time of this press release a total of $7,400 in counterfeit money was recovered in this crime. Agent Sara Albert of the US Secret Service is assisting in the investigation.
