Police: Robber Strikes 2 Banks in 10 Minutes

After first robbery attempt unsuccessful, man flees with cash from second bank minutes later, police say.

A man attempted to rob two banks within minutes of each other in Mastic and Center Moriches Monday afternoon, police said.

Police said a man entered the HSBC Bank located at 1718 Montauk Highway in Mastic at approximately 1:25 p.m., approached a teller and produced a note demanding cash. The man fled on foot with no proceeds, police said.

About 10 minutes later, police said they believe the same man, who was wearing a dark-colored jacket and camouflage pants, entered the Chase Bank located at 366 Main St. in Center Moriches. The man approached a teller and produced a note demanding cash, police said.

The employee complied and the robber fled on foot with an unspecified amount of cash, police said.

The robber is described as a white male, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, in his mid-20s with a thin build.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
