Police Save Man Overdosing On Heroin

Incident happened Friday night in East Patchogue.

A Suffolk County police officer revived a man in East Patchogue Friday night who had overdosed on heroin.

According to police, fifth precinct police officers responded to a call around 7 p.m. of an unconscious man at a home on Conklin Avenue, and determined that the victim had overdosed.

Officer Carmine Marchese administered a dose of intranasal Narcan and the man regained consciousness. The victim was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue by Patchogue Ambulance, police said.

The Suffolk County Police Department is participating in the New York State Department of Health pilot program involving the deployment of intranasal Narcan, a prescription drug used to reverse opiate overdoses. Currently the program is being used by officers in all Suffolk County Police precincts, Marine Bureau and the Emergency Service Section.
