Police Seeking Sender of Suspicious Package to E. Patchogue

Suffolk County Police announced Monday that they are searching for a person suspected of sending a suspicious package to an East Patchogue resident in December 2012.

Police said that an unidentified East Patchogue man received the package on Dec. 12 in the mail. According to an investigation, the package was mailed from the Hempstead post office and police want to question the person who brought the package to be mailed.

Police say surveillance footage shows the suspect to be an elderly black male wearing a dark colored jacket with distinctive patches on the sleeves and on the back of the jacket. The suspect is also wearing brightly colored striped gloves. Photos from the footage from the police are in the media gallery.

According to the announcement, the suspect is wanted by police for an aggravated harassment charge.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220 TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
