Police Seeking Suspect In Patchogue Sexual Assault Investigation

Person-of-interest also being sought by police who can be seen in video stills.

A male suspect is being sought out by Suffolk County Police relating to a Saturday morning sexual assault and robbery of a 24-year-old woman on Main Street in Patchogue, announced deputy inspector Ted Nieves at a press conference at the Fifth Precinct in Patchogue.

Nieves said at the conference that police hope that the public can help identify the man.

"We hope that somebody might have seen this individual," Nieves said when answering a question from the press.

The man is described as a tall, light-skinned Hispanic or black male, with a thin build in his 20s. He was wearing a black t-shirt, dark colored jeans and a wool ski type hat.

According to police, the woman was walking westbound on the south side of Main Street at approximately 3:15 a.m. when a man came up from behind her and dragged her into a grassy and wooded area between West Avenue and River Avenue.

The woman, whom police say was on her way to her friend's house at the time of the attack, suffered numerous cuts and bruises along with a broken nose. She was treated and released at a local hospital.

Police said it appears the suspect may have fled eastbound on Main Street.
