Police: Two Arrested in Patchogue Armed Robbery

Robbery took place on Rider Avenue early Saturday, police say.

Two men were arrested following an armed robbery in Patchogue Saturday morning, police said.

A 23-year-old East Islip male was walking on Rider Avenue near Terry Street at 4:40 a.m. when he was approached by two men, police said. After one man displayed a knife and threatened him, the two men stole cash and an iPhone.

Two Fifth Precinct police officers, who were responding to the robbery, were able to locate the men and the proceeds were recovered, police said.

Christopher Washington, 23, of Coram, and Stephan Riley, 22, of Holbrook, are each charged with first degree robbery.

Washington and Riley are being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and are scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this robbery or any related incidents to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

The Terry Street Apartments are filled with drug addicts and dealers ... Do not think for a second that this crime is not related to its location.

More section on the way will mean more crime. History repeats itself.

Rider Ave. is lit up like a roman candle, we need no more lighting. We need the apartments cleared out of drug dealers, and the like. Patchogue Village is becoming a haven for section 8. I see four or five times a week the SCPD pulling cars over and conducting searches in the vehicles. What are they looking for? Not winning lottery tickets or lollipops but drugs. They are looking for buyers and sellers in our community. What the hell is going on? Enough is enough.....

Yes we live in a free country and we have the privilege of coming and going at our leisure but one more thing about this robbery on Rider Ave, why is an East Islip man walking down Rider ave. at 4:40 AM?!

I'm afraid that we can build the biggest best shopping and art center on long Island, but if we can't get our streets cleaned up and under control the effort for down town will be wasted ! Just imagine a high roller stopping in Patchogue on the way to the Hampton's from the City for a meal and some art at a gallery or two. Now imagine someone asking them for money in the parking lot or being mugged, NOT a good situation. We have to get TRITEC , Building codes and the Police to take out our village garbage with the rest of the building debris.
