Police: Two Men Rob 70-Year-Old Woman in Medford

Bystanders chase suspect and provide police with details leading to the suspects' arrest, said SCPD.

Two Bellport men were arrested Friday for robbing a 70-year-old woman at the Sunshine Square Mall parking lot in Medford, police said.

According to police, the unidentified victim was placing her groceries into the trunk of her vehicle when she was approached by a male suspect. One of the suspects then grabbed her pocketbook from her shoulder and attempted to steal it. The woman fought back against the suspect, but he shoved her to the ground and fled with the pocketbook at 5:25 p.m. The victim received minor injuries from the incident but did not require medical attention.

Police say that witnesses to the struggle then chased the suspect through the parking lot, one of them observing the suspect enter a vehicle on the other side of Patchogue-Yaphank Road from the mall. The witness provided police a description of the car, leading to police locating it and making two arrests.

Both suspects are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.
