Police: Two Patchogue Men Charged in Attempted Robbery

Two Patchogue man were arrested Sunday night after they attempted to rob a man of his cell phone, police said. 

A 49-year-old Patchogue man was walking on Carmen Street in Patchogue when he was approached by two males in a white Mitsubishi Galant around 10:40 p.m. 

One of the men exited the vehicle and confronted the victim, pointing what appeared to be a black handgun at him, and demanding the victim’s cell phone, police said.

The victim refused and a brief altercation ensued, police said. The suspect returned to the vehicle and fled. The victim did not suffer any injuries.

A short time later, Fifth Precinct patrol officers James Lennon and Brian Panuccio noticed a vehicle fitting the description while on patrol on Norton Street in Patchogue, police said.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the officers determined that the two men in the car were involved in the attempted robbery and placed them under arrest, police said.

The officers also recovered a black pellet gun which is believed to be the weapon used in the crime, police said. 

Andre Quick, 19, and Jared Hartley, 20, were each charged with first degree attempted robbery and were being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct. They will be arraigned Monday morning at First District Court in Central Islip.
