Report: Woman Rear-Ends Police Car in E. Patchogue, Charged with DWI

Dawn Heller struck a parked police car while intoxicated, Newsday reports.

According to a Newsday report, a West Islip woman was arrested Thursday and charged with driving while intoxicated after the minivan she was driving rear-ended a Suffolk County police patrol car on Sunrise Highway in East Patchogue.

Dawn Heller, 46, swerved to try to avoid hitting the unoccupied patrol car, but wound up striking it and causing damage, Newsday reported. The car was parked in the right lane of Sunrise Highway as a safety buffer to control traffic and protect highway workers. The lane was closed at the time.
