Rumor Control: Police Did Not Shut Down Emporium Sunday

St. Patrick's Day Railroad Avenue arrests, incidents not connected to The Emporium, police say.

Although a number of arrests and incidents were reported on Railroad Avenue in Patchogue on St. Patrick's Day Sunday, Suffolk County Police told Patch that they were not connected to The Emporium music venue.

Patch asked as a result of readers commenting in our St. Patrick's Day parade photos post regarding the possible shut down of the venue due to such incidents, which is also not true according to Suffolk County Police and the management at The Emporium.

Police told Patch that the venue stopped serving alcohol at 6 p.m. and closed at its planned 7 p.m. closing time for St. Patrick's Day. Tim Lorito, owner of The Emporium, confirmed the closing time and added that the venue paid for $2,000 worth of free cab rides to people at their venue.

However, police did report a number of incidents on Railroad Avenue itself. These were a highly intoxicated person that was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue just before 4 p.m., individuals arrested for disorderly conduct for standing in the middle of Railroad Avenue and impeding the flow of traffic at 4 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. and a call involving a fight on Railroad Avenue at 8:15 p.m.
