Update: Man Killed In One-Car Accident on Sunrise

Traffic backed up to Station Road exit Thursday morning.

Update: An unidentified man was killed in a one-car accident Thursday morning on Sunrise Highway in Patchogue, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department.

The accident took place at exit 52, Waverly Avenue, involving a sedan at 8:36 a.m. No other passengers were in the vehicle.

The Suffolk County Police Department is handling the investigation of the incident.

A one-car accident on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway in Patchogue Thursday morning caused traffic to divert onto the service roads and back up all the way to the Station Road exit in Bellport.

The Suffolk County Sheriff's Department said that one car was involved. Additional information was not available as of publication time, Patch will update when and if we receive more.

The traffic delays were called into Patch at around 9:45 a.m. and it was cleared up by around 10:30 a.m.

When Patch drove to the scene at around 10 a.m., a crashed car was seen between the Waverly Avenue and Route 112 exits.
