Surveillance Footage Shows Men Who Killed Dog During Attempted Home Invasion

Video shows men running on the property of the Boys & Girls Club of the Bellport Area.

Suffolk County Police released surveillance footage Friday of three men running from the scene of an attempted home invasion in North Bellport in which a dog was shot and killed.

In the video above, which was posted to the police department's YouTube page, the men can be seen running across the property of the Boys & Girls Club of the Bellport Area on Atlantic Avenue.

The club is just down the road from Montauk Highway, where police say the men attempted to force their way into an occupied home Thursday afternoon before fatally shooting a family dog who ran out of the home, police said.

Although the video only shows three men, police had said Thursday that four or five men attempted to enter a residence, which was occupied by four adults at the time, on Montauk Highway in the vicinity of Doane Avenue at about 3:10 p.m.

The residents attempted to push the door back but the men sprayed them with a chemical substance, police said. As the residents were shutting the door, the dog raced out of the door, police said.

The suspects, who all had their faces partially covered, shot the dog with a small caliber handgun and all of the men fled the scene, police said. The dog killed was an 11-year-old three-legged female pit bull named Sarah.

No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
